eleanor's cut finger aka a rough month for eleanor

poor eleanor has had a rough month

starting with june 29th getting her tonsils and adenoids out and tubes put in her ears

it took a solid 3 week recovery

then just two weeks ago we started her in swim lessons

because she is pretty fearful of water and we wanted to help her with that

but it was hard for her

she did eventually get more comfortable but it was a slow process

then last monday (a week ago) she decided it was time to potty train

which is great

all the trauma of her surgery was behind her and she did really well

things were definitely seeming up

until wednesday last week (july 29th) literally a month after her surgery

to the day

we were at the doctor's office for henry to get his 15 month check up (a month late)

and just after he got his immunizations, a metal statue in the room fell on eleanor

she and olive had been playing near it (olive was up high on a chair next to it and eleanor was below)

the nurse rushed to help get it off of her and then we saw she was bleeding

in her mouth and on her hand

she had a bloody lip and a severely cut finger

blood was everywhere

henry was still crying from his shots, eleanor was crying from her finger getting cut

and olive was crying because it was too loud

after cleaning up the blood on the floor

the nurse moved us to the procedure room 

i was glad to move because i was getting light-headed

 (i even told the nurse my husband's name to call him on my phone if i passed out)

 meanwhile the kids are running a muck in the procedure room

and i can't get a hold of michael on the phone

and i'm trying to keep pressure on eleanor's finger

eventually the nurse took the other 4 kids out to watch a movie in the waiting area

hallelujah

 we had to strap her on a papoose board so she wouldn't move while they stitched her finger

she could still move her hand so she kept clenching her fist

eventually i distracted her enough and she relented and held still while they got her fixed up

 she got 7 stitches in her right ring finger

and a cool bandaid we have to change every day for a week 

while keeping her hand dry

not an easy task and another huge damper on our summer

no swimming, no science center, can't finish swimming lessons, etc

 poor eleanor

she has been such a good sport

but i feel extra awful for making her do swim lessons and potty training her amidst

all the chaos and trauma she's gone through this summer

and i feel sorry for the other kids being stuck at home because of all of this

it may have been a bad time to put our tv away....

the doctor and nurses handled things really well

but the stupid metal statue shouldn't have been in there anyway since it's apparently really sharp

and wasn't bolted down

and also is made out of lead...

they were concerned about her tetanus vaccinations, too

we weren't charged for the appointment at all (duh)

but i hope her finger heals fully and it won't hinder her at all once it heals

pretty awful

we'll see if the stitches are really ready to come out wednesday 

it doesn't seem like they will be
