about my new years resolution..

i haven't purchased any new clothing or shoes
for our family in 2010
so i guess you can say it's going well
but it is hard
and just look at the cute sweater hazel is wearing today
i bought it while i was pregnant with her
on clearance at old navy for like $2.50
you can't beat that, even thrifting
so while i'm proud of myself for setting this goal
we find out what we're having next week
and i just don't think i'll make it past then
shopping the day i find out what i'm having is..
tradition
and who am i to break tradition?

That sounds like a tradition that should not be broken... I can't believe you are already finding out next week! Exciting!

maybe I should be encouraging you to keep your goal, but in my opinion - you have to be flexible!

Old Navy does have some deals that are too hard to pass up.
I'm planning on making myself a couple skirts - but came across on today at the store, and bought it. Because it was cheaper then if I had gone and bought fabric.
But it's still a good resolution! i'm sure you'll still save money just by scoping out deals!

I don't think that will count against your resolution. I believe that falls under a seperate category.

just alter your resolution. then you technically don't break it. :o)

We just got three stuffed bags full of clothing for the kids at Old Navy for $53. I don't think we paid more that $2.50 for anything! There really is no beating those prices.

ooh, I agree -- alter your resolution. :)

I'm all for homemade stuff, but don't think I could go for a year without buying anything. If you still want to make stuff there is a great blog that Merilou told me about called makeitandloveit.blogspot.com it has so many great ideas on how to make the stuff you have already into new things.

I don't blame you...shop away for that baby! :)

Maybe just shop on that day ~ allow yourself that, and then go back to your resolution.

Love you!

I agree. Every girl needs to shop. Especially when she finds out if she is having a baby boy or girl :)

(hi you used to be in my parent's ward, my sisters (hannah and abby) always talk about how cool you guys are)
we made this resolution too, (except with everything, not just clothes) but we exempted the baby. so far we haven't had to buy her anything new either but its nice to know we have the option. babies just grow too fast and need so many things its hard to find them all used when you need them.
good luck! and i love your blog.
