bowling

after family home evening we went to $1 bowling on byu campus
the kids thought it was fun
but they were a little more interested in the arcade games,
drinking fountain and french fries

noah's room

noah finally gets his own room
and not a moment too soon
he's starting to be more private about changing clothes
and he stays up later than the girls reading
his room is really small
but it doesn't seem to bother him at all
he loves having his own space, with a locking door and all

big haircut

i gave noah a haircut yesterday
to get ready for first grade
and hazel said she needed one for pre-school
we'd been growing her hair out this last year
but she decided it was time for a change
here she is!
we were a little sad to see her hair go
but short hair looks so cute on her
we love it and so does she
(thank goodness)
now olive thinks she needs a haircut
so i keep giving her pretend ones...we're not ready to cut hers yet

ps. hazel's chin isn't dirty, it's scraped
there was a monkey bar incident a few days ago

in and out burger

i'm not going to lie
we're kind of loving
not living in the middle of nowhere anymore

don't mind that we all wore our hats backwards..
today we went to target and in and out burger
there are so many things to do here!

byu creamery

we had a fun outing to byu campus today
we especially enjoyed the ice cream at the creamery
and we bought everyone some byu paraphernalia
here's eleanor being way too cute propped up by michael
in her new outfit

"camping"

this may surprise you (ha!) but i'm not very outdoorsy
noah and hazel have been saying that they want to go camping this summer
but since we were moving and we have a new baby and i didn't really want to...we haven't gone
then last night as i heard noah reminiscing about the one time he went camping as a 2 year old
(not that he would have remembered)
i decided we'd go camping
but in the backyard
so those of us who needed to sleep in our own beds could
we roasted marshmallows on the grill
(hazel just ate hers on a stick)
 and enjoyed some smores
 delicous
hazel was all pumped to sleep in the tent with michael and noah
until i told her it might get cold
she backed out immediately
so she and olive went to bed like normal
but noah got to stay up with us inside watching mythbusters
until he and michael went to bed in the tent
michael said it was really fun just the two of them
they read bedtime stories with flashlights
and even slept in
successful camping trip!

temple square

today we drove up to salt lake to check out the new city creek mall
and walk around temple square
here we are in front of the salt lake temple
then we went to the conference center
 and took a tour
it was so cool, we saw way more by taking a tour
michael and i really enjoyed it
the kids thought it was a little long
we even went up on the rooftop
which was super pretty and had a great view
but it was hooooot
eleanor was pretty upset about the heat
we also went to the visitor center to see the Christus statue
and to the church history museum because there was a fun kids display going
then let the kids run wild through the fountains at the mall
while i bought them new clearance clothes to change into
and finished the day at ikea
our feet are tired but utah is really starting to grow on me

eleanor is 4 months

eleanor turned four months old yesterday
eleanor is the most ideal baby ever
(other than her allergies, i suppose)
she is so easy going, always happy, and such a smiler
she is really strong and rolling all the time
she loves to suck her thumb and eat her hands
it was a really hard adjustment to switch her to formula
and while she still had blood in her stool for about a week
i worried i'd made a huge mistake switching her
but once that got out of her system, she's been fine
she seems to be super healthy now
and it turns out formula is pretty convenient
she is up to 11 straight hours of sleep a night
and just to remember this
here is a picture of eleanor's corner saloon in uniontown, wa
which we never went to and is now out of business
but definitely inspired me to name eleanor
i am an admirer of eleanor roosevelt
and because of this sign i realized i liked the way it looked in writing, too
we love our little eleanor

we're like...real life grown ups now

well, not really
we are just renting our house
and michael is still in school
but...
we bought a lawn mower today!
does that seem crazy to anyone else?..

we moved!

we made it to utah!
the drive here was a little long
noah threw up twice because of car-sickness
and the trailer michael's parents were towing blew a tire
but it all worked out
and the good news is
we LOVE our house
we're getting used to the heat
hazel stopped crying for pullman ( and bailey) after a day or so
and noah only cried his first night alone in his new room
because he was lonely
and missed telling hazel knock-knock jokes
olive's stitches are healing well
and eleanor is just the sweetetst
we have been non-stop trying to unpack
and getting settled
we love our garage, backyard, slurpees, ikea, target
more space, and being near family

here are a couple of pictures from our last day in pullman
 hazel, bailey, and olive
kelli, me, and heather with our babes
allen, michael, and brooks
 michael, me, allen, and diana
that bottom left apartment was our home for the last three years
we were sooo happy to see that sign
and lastly, a big giant thank you to michael's parents
for not only driving the moving truck
but for spoiling us while they were here, too!

July 30, 2012

of course

so i was taking pictures of our living room full of furniture
when the kids decided to get in the picture
sitting precariously on the rug which is sitting on their dressers
then olive started begging to get up, too
see her face?
well just seconds after i put her on the left dresser
i went to grab the camera to take another picture
when olive decided to move to the dresser noah and hazel were on
and her leg went between them, making her lose her balance
and she fell right off
and hit her face on that milk crate on the floor
so we went straight to the doctor with blood dripping everywhere
and i helped pin her down while she got stitches
it's our first time one of our kids have had stitches
and of course it's the day we're packing up to move
it's not as long as this photo shows. the bottom part is blood
i think it's about 4 stitches
and i'm pretty positive she'll have a black eye tomorrow
poor girl!
i'm pretty sick about
and not just because i'm a sissy about blood
