halloween recap

what a day, what a day
wednesdays are already crazy around here
with the kids school schedules, i'm running around a lot
so today was even more
but the kids had lots of fun and that's what's important

the kids went to school
i went to noah's costume parade
the kids did lots of trick or treating
we ate pumpkin shaped pizza
and way too much candy

eleanor wore a skeleton outfit all day
and then took a really late nap all evening
so she didn't get dressed up
oh well :)

i hope everyone had a super fun halloween!

blue velvet blazer

blazer: estate sale, chambray & jeans: old navy, shoes: forever 21, scarf: vintage, belt: target

i was pretty excited to find this blazer at an estate sale a few months ago
it was super cheap and an easy way to try it out
this was the first time i wore it
but now that it's getting cooler out, i'll be wearing it more

ps.happy halloween!

happy halloween

love,
noah, hazel, olive and eleanor

similar posts from 2008 and 2009
ps: it's amazing how much use that "my first halloween" onesie
and those striped target leggings from the dollar section have had :)

sewing: our handmade halloween

i made a goal this year not to buy any costumes
we'd just use what we have or make what we need
my husband and i were popeye and olive oyl
using and embellishing clothes we already had
and i made our daughter eleanor a sweet pea dress and hat
i made our daughter hazel a cinderella dress and headband
 out of an old bedsheet
and our 6 year old noah wanted to be an angry bird
i made his costume using this tutorial
i only didn't make a costume for our 2 year old daughter
who is wearing a handmedown store-bought super girl costume :)
what do you think?
do you prefer to make or buy halloween costumes?

a run to the grocery store outfit

top: gap, pants: old, shoes: thrifted, necklace: gymboree, earrings: vintage

yesterday was super busy
we were getting ready for halloween and all the parties
but this is what i wore to the grocery store :)

Popeye, Olive Oyl and Sweet Pea

we were lucky enough to be able to go to jennie's annual halloween party this year
which was a good reason to dress up
and our ward party was right before so we were dressed up for both
we could not think of costumes
other than shows we like but i didn't think i could pull off gus from psych
as well as michael could pull off shawn
michael also suggested we be mitt romney and barack obama
but again, i'd be a black man so we kept brainstorming
we wanted to use what we have
and maybe be something we already kind of sort of looked like
so we settled on this
Popeye was just clothes michael had
and he even had the hat
we kept meaning to draw anchors on his arms but never did
for olive oyl i just embellished clothes i already had
with lace and pom pom trim
i was thinking about making eleanor a spinach costume but
never got around to it
and then an hour or two before the activity
michael reminded me of their baby sweet pea
so i busted out this dress and hat super fast
the red fabric is the same as noah's angry bird costume :)
 i love these two
on the way to the ward/neighborhood halloween party
i looked back and saw the kids had buckled noah's costume :)
at the party, the girls getting their faces painted
i bought some apples and caramel, apple cider and halloween candy yesterday
the festivities have definitely begun

family date night

last night we went on a family date
out to red robin

 and walking around the mall
noah chose to play on michael's phone for a minute
instead of ride the carousel with the girls
this was olive's first time not freaking out on one :)
 and the best picture ever
because
a) michael is trying to look tough
b) there is some random girl right next to him
c) our children are not anywhere to be seen
despite the fact that they were right next to him
we came home and laughed and laughed about it
pretty fun night

blue cords

sweater: old navy, cordsboots, necklace: h&m

i'm not going to lie, i am preeetty excited i can fit these pants again
my baby is 6 months old and i'm not as small as i was before i was pregnant with her
but it's coming along
so i'm happy for that
these are the perfect fall pants and super flattering
it looks like the gap doesn't have this color anymore
but they would be amazing in green

Hazel's Ballet Class Halloween Dance Vide

It was too big to put directly on here so I uploaded it to youtube
it's pretty cute

peace love rock n roll

hunter bootscoated leggings, tshirt: forever21 (can't find online), cardigan, scarf: vintage, glasses

it is starting to get awfully cold around here
but i'm not minding the chance to bundle up
there's even a little snow around here this morning...eek!

sewing: pouches

for a quick and easy project i like to sew pouches
they can be used for so many things like cosmetics, art supplies, diaper and wipes, etc.
this is a remnant of fabric that i got at joann's a while ago and i lined the inside
with some pink fabric i had on hand
i bought some water resistant fabric from ikea to make pouches for make up or markers
whatever needs to be wiped out
i didn't line this one so it went really fast
then i saw this tutorial for a pencil pouch
and thought it could be a fun gift for nieces and nephews with art supplies inside
and maybe i'll personalize the eraser with their names or something
just an idea
here's my (semi-ghetto) version
using what i have on hand
i will use better fabrics if i do make them as gifts
eleanor tried to swipe it while i was taking the picture
not a bad start on Christmas
do you prefer making or buying gifts?

michael is my hero

he took all four kids for a few hours
grocery shopping no less
so i could relax
and not clean this
(though i eventually did before they got back)
and not finish this (noah's costume i'm sewing at the kitchen table)
and instead go take a super hot bath
which i haven't done for ages because
a) i only have time for showers
b) i rarely shower or bath period (i'm gross, i know)
c) everytime i shower lately olive insists on joining me (fun for her, not for me)

i couldn't believe michael offered to do it
or that they were gone so long
or that the kids all came home so happy
he is amazing
like, really and truly
and not just for this
but in general he is the best husband
and treats me so well

in other new/related news
eleanor seems to have reflux from her new formula
i'm taking her in to talk to her doctor tomorrow
but since day one on elecare
she has been in pain every time she burps or spits up
and she is having a really hard time sleeping
she wakes up screaming all night long
poor baby (and poor michael...and me)
i don't do well on less than enough sleep
and it's extra shocking to the system since until recently
she was sleeping through the night
i'm hoping we can get her some medication to help
especially since we don't want to mess with her formula
once it finally seems "settled"
