a little accident

tomorrow is a WSU garage sale
that we decided to participate in with our friends
and while we were there setting up tonight
noah had a little accident
the kind that involves him pushing a cart
after his mom asked him not to
riiiiiight into a window
here's the result
here's the cart he pushed into the window
and here's a very sad noah
with the patched up window
the funny part is that our bishop runs the building on campus
where this all happened
and noah didn't act very upset until
i asked him to tell the bishop sorry
then he started bawling!
he was so distraught
so the bishop gave him a hug to make him feel better
and told him he's not the first kid to do it
i'm sure he won't be the last either

seriously?

i'd never seen a gray hair on my head
until last summer
and since then i've barely seen any
then suddenly this week alone
i've found two very gray hairs
in my bang area
my parents didn't gray early
but both of my grandmas did
so today i asked my dad how early his mom
and my mom's mom grayed
he said very early
by age 30 my dad's mom
had a distinct streak of gray through her bang area
yikes!
maybe flat feet weren't the only thing i inherited
from my sweet grandma kelly

the living room so far

here are some updated photos of our living room
the color we painted with is a light aqua/blueish color
kind of hard to see in pictures
we love it
i made some pillows for the couch using some amy butler
fabric that has the yellow/green of the couch
as well as the color of our walls in it
and
last night we spray painted the mirror above the couch white

all i have left is
finding a rug
or making one like this
and curtains
then we're done
and i'll focus my time on the baby's room
and getting ready for her arrival

bowling

saturday was all sorts of busy
we had soccer, a birthday party for noah's friend naomi, a family fair, a ward bbq
and then went bowling with our friends Heather and Brooks for Brooks' birthday
it was such a fun day and i'm pretty sure i've never seen anything cuter than our kids in bowling shoes

great grandma bea

this photo whole heartedly makes me want to name this baby beatrice after my great grandma

a new couch

we got a new couch this last weekend
are you surprised?
the cushions look a little wonky because we just washed
the covers last night
we got it at a garage sale
$40
we love it
it's nine feet long
perfectly vintage
and gives us a lot more seating

fridays

are like holidays
they're full of excitement and fun
and we look forward to them all week
in honor of today i made the kids matching outfits
to lounge in
have a wonderful friday

April 8, 2010

gigantic

today i made myself a nice tall skirt
to cover my frequently exposed mid section
i'm 27-28 weeks
and already outgrowing my maternity clothes
this doesn't usually happen yet....

back to square one

i decided a while ago
to let michael choose the name of our baby
mostly he was choosing between olive and eleanor
he always favored eleanor
which i knew
but i still wanted him to decide
so he mostly chose
i say mostly because michael didn't want to have to chose either
but he loosely chose eleanor
and i accepted it
we started referring to the baby as such
though i still had a deep love of olive
but what helped
was that noah one day
out of the blue
said, "mom, remember eleanor or olive?
i like eleanor"
i loved hearing it from him
but the more we refer to the baby
as eleanor
i like the name less and less
so yesterday michael was sweet and referred to the baby
as olive
which i enjoyed
but he's not actually sold on it
so...
we're back to square one
why does it have to be so hard?

April 6, 2010

open minded

today i'm thinking about child birth
i had noah completely natural
not really by choice
but because i birthed him at a super small hospital
that didn't offer epidurals
and talked you out of the use of medication
in the hypnobirthing classes they did offer
after his birth i felt a little traumatized
i didn't even want to hold him at first
until i heard him cry
which happened to be a little while since he had fluid in his lungs
my body was shaking too much
and i had kept all of the pain to myself
(other than the shaking and vomiting twice)
because i was on emotional lock down mode
since my divorce just 3 months earlier
my mom was there with me while i was delivering noah
i was so grateful to have her
she held my leg while i pushed
and even cut the cord
but i definitely wished i'd had a supportive husband by my side as well
then after michael and i got married and we were pregnant with hazel
i assumed, although not necessary, i would birth hazel
naturally as well
i heard that second children were much easier to birth
and super quick
so i planned for it
but hazel's cord prevented her from exiting the same way noah did
and her heart rate dropped
so i had an emergency c-section
which i found traumatic in a different way
something about the midwife's hand somewhere i would've preferred it not
for an extended period
as well as the shot they gave me to stop my contractions
which made my body shake like crazy
while laying completely naked on the operating table
wondering where my husband had disappeared to
(he was getting prepped for the c-section)
and then i was given too much pain killer
which made me very tired and vomit a lot the next day...
this time i'm not sure how it will go
i'm going to try for a VBAC
vaginal birth after cesarean
and i'm open minded to having an epidural
although i do see definite perks to having a planned c-section
i just want a pleasant experience
where i'm not in too much shock
or too drugged up
to even want to hold my baby
we'll see how it goes
i'm happy i'll have an awesome husband there to support me
no matter what
anyone have any advice?

heaven

the kids are sleeping better in the same room
than they were in separate rooms
they go straight to bed
and wake up later than they used to
such a blessing!
we only wish we'd done this sooner

easter 2010

it has been a nice long weekend of celebrating easter
friday night we had a stake easter activity
which could have been more fun if i wasn't one of the people in charge
here's noah all dressed up
about to "walk through Jerusalem"
saturday we started out by going out to breakie
at our favorite place
michael and hazel drinkin' orange juice
me and noah drinkin' hot chocolate
then we went to the pullman city easter egg hunt
hazel totally got more eggs than noah
she's very motivated by candy
 noah had soccer
at the same park as the easter egg hunt just an hour later
then we enjoyed an afternoon of general conference

then this morning we woke up
gave the kids their easter baskets
they went on a little easter egg hunt in our living room
then we took some pictures
aren't they the cutest little bunnies?

then we had a nice pancake breakfast
watched some more general conference
and had easter dinner with some friends from our ward
i love this picture of noah with some of his girl friends
it's as if he's annoyed at me for interrupting
and finally
a family easter photo
happy easter!!

April 2, 2010

going on our 4th easter

easter 2007
michael and i were engaged

easter 2008
we were married and i was pregnant with hazel

easter 2009
our first year with noah and hazel

easter 2010
hasn't happened yet..
but noah is very excited
and hazel will be
when she realizes there's candy involved

April 1, 2010

the palouse discovery science center

practicing jump roping skills
considering testing their balance
playing b-ball

on her tippie toes to push a button
the kids definitely had fun
but didn't last more than an hour
or hour and a half
so i think we'll hold off on a year long membership for now

wish us luck

today we're moving the kids in together
i love them having separate rooms because they sleep so well
but we are only in a 3 bedroom apartment
and more than them having separate rooms
i want the baby to have her own room
because i don't sleep when i have a baby in my room
and we really don't want to move again
even if a 4 bedroom apartment does open up
so..
we're taking the plunge
better now than later, right?
i hope so
at least one perk
(even if the kids sleep terribly in the same room)
i get to really start putting the nursery together
yay
